Big Price Cuts Coming? Blu-ray Pricing Trends Show Promise For Black Friday, Holidays

bluray_index.jpgAre online video vendors killing Blu-ray? Well, that's actually a topic for another post. The important point here is that companies like Netflix may be the reason for huge Blu-ray player price drops. In the first two weeks of September alone, PriceSCAN is reporting an 8% decrease in Blu-ray player prices, on top of a 14% decrease over the course of Q3. Sony is rumored to be planning a $100 price cut for their BDP-S350 Blu-ray player bringing the price down to $299, right around a mass adoption price point. While the recent pricing trends might not bode well for manufacturers and retailers come Black Friday and Christmas, it definitely bodes well for the end user-that being YOU.
